DAILY LOG

April 6th
It had been suggested to us that a place called Caojian 漕涧, about 50km southwest of Liuku 六库 along route S228, might be worth trying to do some birding, if we could find suitable habitat. As the area lies between the Nujiang 怒江 (Salween) and the the Lancang 澜沧江 (Mekong) Rivers it seemed worth a “go”. We got a bus out there but almost all the hillsides viewable from the road were quite bare.

At the town itself Jemi asked around. A sample of people in the street were not certain whether there might be anywhere nearby with some original trees and possibly some accommodation. A turnoff south at KM51 of route S 228 had an archway marked “Yun Long Forest” but it seemed to be a former commercial tree-harvesting operation rather than being a nature reserve of any kind. We returned to Liuku 六库.
