DAILY LOG

April 4th
Liuku 六库 - Pianma Road 片马 S316

Another misty morning found us birding a damp corner of the road at km 79 for Scaly Laughingthrushes – they were very shy. Further up, Hill Partridges and Collared Owlets could be heard but not seen. A small group of Beautiful Sibias was more obliging. We returned to Pianma and headed out on the road to the village of Gulang古浪, roughly northwards. We stopped for loud calling in woods above the vehicle and spotted a pair of Striated Laughingthrushes. A dozen Maroon-backed Accentors near a high point of the road came as a surprise considering we had seen them nowhere else. Four Ashy Wood Pigeons provided a brief flypast. A day total of 56 was the best of the trip to date.
