Nordmann’s Greenshank breed around the Sea of Okhotsk in the Russian Far East and mostly winter in Southeast Asia. This Endangered species has a world population now estimated at 1,000 individuals, and faces many threats along the East Asian Flyway. Nordmann’s pass through Hong Kong between late March and late May. Although the world population of this species is small, 20-30 or more individuals can be sometimes be seen on a spring day at Hong Kong’s Mai Po Nature Reserve.
